The department was established in 1997 as a result of the amalgamation of the Orthopedic and Surgical Stomatology Departments. The clinical bases of the department are the Orthopedic and Surgical Stomatology Departments of the Stomatology Training and Production Centre of Myrat Garryyev Turkmen State Medical University; Surgical Stomatology Department of  S.A. Niyazov Medical Consultative Centre of Turkmenistan. The department is equipped with a local network in which electronic portals of each teacher are created; there is a phantom class for training for 10 students.

   

  The curriculum for students are: "Orthopedic Stomatology ", "Surgical Stomatology ", " Stomatology ", "Military Stomatology and Maxillofacial Surgery"; for residents: "Orthopedic Stomatology" and "Surgical Stomatology".

 

  The department has published textbooks and teaching aids: "Surgical Stomatology", "Orthopedic Stomatology ", "Pediatric Surgical Stomatology ", " Stomatology ", "Dental Prosthetics", "Military Stomatology and Maxillofacial Surgery" and so on.

 

  The scientific work of the staff of the department is aimed at studying the clinical and immunological characteristics of inflammatory diseases of the maxillofacial part; improvement of diagnostic methods, treatment and prevention of complications in prosthetics with metal-ceramic prostheses. 2 doctoral and 14 candidate theses were defended at the department, 7 inventors certificates and over 60 rationalization proposals were received.

 

  The medical work of the staff of the department consists of consultative and operational assistance to patients with inflammatory diseases, injuries and tumors, as well as with congenital and acquired defects and deformities of the maxillofacial region, partial and complete defects of teeth, dentition, jaw and facial organs.

 

  Educational work takes place in the form of mentoring of academic groups, participation and holding of social and cultural events: teleconferences with adjacent and other departments and blades; "Days of the Department" in the student hostels. Preparation of students' participation in the competition of young scientists of Turkmenistan (in 2016 the second prize-winning place was taken) is an important part of the research work of the department staff.
