The General Chemistry Department was established in 1932 and for many decades it has been proud of its professional and teaching staff. It teaches first and second year students of the university. Educational work is conducted in the following subjects: General and Bioorganic Chemistry; Inorganic Chemistry; Physical and Colloidal Chemistry; Analytical Chemistry; Biological Chemistry.

 

The staff of the department has published textbooks "Biochemistry" and "General and Inorganic Chemistry", prepared methodological manuals, manuals on practical skills presented in electronic form.

 

Lectures and practical classes are held in classrooms equipped with interactive whiteboards, and for scientific work there is a laboratory supplied with modern instruments and equipment.

The teachers of the department participate in the implementation of the science research "Study of the antioxidant state of the body." The obtained results are published in various scientific journals and presented at the scientific and practical conferences. The department defended 4 doctoral and 18 candidate theses, published 4 scientific monographs, developed over 60 scientific and methodological manuals and published over 5,000 scientific articles.

Under the guidance of the staff of the department, students carry out scientific work on the topic “Mineral waters and volcanic clays of Turkmenistan, their physic-chemical and medicinal properties”. The research results were repeatedly presented at the exhibitions, various competitions for young scientists held at the state level, and were awarded with honorary diplomas. In 2012, students trained by department teachers participated for the first time in the international Internet Olympiad as a result of which two of them won bronze medals.
