The Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases Department began its work with the establishment of the Turkmen State Medical Institute in 1932. At that time and later, the department was headed by the scientists well-known in the world and in our country. At present, the department is located on the base of the Nephrology Department of S .A. Niyazov Medical Consultative Centre of Turkmenistan.

At the department, the students of the junior courses of the Medical, Pediatrics, Medical–Prophylactic, Stomatology, Field Military and Sports Medicine Faculties study the disciplines “General Patient Care” and “Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases”.

 Textbooks “Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases” and “General Care for Therapeutic Patients” have been published by the staff of the department and over 60 teaching aids and a computer training and monitoring programme in the discipline “Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases” have been developed, the lecture material is presented in the form of multimedia presentations and electronic form for central medical library of the university. Propaedeutics is one of the main clinical disciplines in the training of a doctor and for its studying, student tries to apply his theoretical knowledge in practical medicine for the first time.

Research work is carried out in the following directions: clinical and laboratory peculiarities of the combination of chronic delta infection with hepatitis B and C in Turkmenistan and the improvement of methods for their treatment, prophylaxis, improvement of the treatment of chronic renal failure, study of the activity of cytochrome Р1-А2(СУП1-А2) isoenzyme in chronic pyelonephritis. The scientific works of the department are published in foreign countries, in periodicals of Turkmenistan, in the collections of the scientific and practical conferences. Repeatedly, teachers of the department became the winners of the competition of young scientists in Turkmenistan.

Up-to-date diagnosis, treatment and prophylaxis of chronic diseases of the kidneys, liver and gallbladder were implemented by the assistants of the department and scientific- practical conference for the doctors are held. At the clinical bases conducted medical-diagnostic work, clinical analysis, councils, consultations and telemedicine bridges are held.

At the department, the students receive deep and serious knowledge in profession. Placing belief and hope of the recovery into the patients on full recovery of health with help of medicines and kind words play a great role in treatment. Therefore, professional and teaching staff of the department teach the students true humanism, genuine mercy, philanthropy.
