The base of the department is  Medical  Consultative  center named after S. A. Niyazov.  Department provides training in two disciplines:  Surgery; anesthesiology and resuscitation .

          

Postgraduate training of doctors is carried out in the following areas: primary specialization of doctors (interns) in the specialty of surgery (term of 3 months); thematic improvement for doctors working in the hospital; working in the houses of health; family doctors; emergency physicians; endocrinologists.

          

The staff of the Department has written training programs, texts of lectures and practical classes, their electronic versions, video and audio recordings, training modules, presentations, questionnaires, test questions for all cycles.  At the department  published 2 textbooks : "General surgery”," Surgical diseases“ and the textbook " Cholecystitis“ in the Turkmen language, which outlines modern innovative methods of diagnosis and minimally invasive methods of surgical treatment of patients.

          

The scientific work of the Department is carried out in 3 directions: “Surgical treatment of liver and bile tract diseases”, “Echinococcosis of the liver”,  “Surgical treatment of thyroid diseases”.

          

Based on the results of scientific work was published monograph  "Complex diagnostics and surgical treatment of cholecystitis", “Echinococcosis of the liver“.  The results of research work are reported at regional and international scientific and practical conferences, published in conference proceedings and scientific journals.

          

Employees of the Department participate daily in morning medical conferences, clinical rounds, conduct patients, take part in solving complex clinical situations, review medical history, conduct scientific and practical conferences.    Patients are examined using modern innovative methods (ultrasound, color dopplerography, endoscopy, CT, NMRCT, 3D CT, Cytology and hormone diagnostics). Minimally invasive methods are widely used in the operative treatment of surgical patients. The clinic has introduced the method of aspiration biopsy of the thyroid gland under ultrasound control,  minilaparotomic and minithoracotomy operation, intraoperative chromatic Express diagnostics of the internal opening of the cystobiliary fistula. Determination of the topography of blood vessels in the peroxide parenchyma of the liver using color dopplerography in patients with echinococcosis of the liver, allows avoiding iatrogenic vascular damage during the operation of echinococcectomy of the liver. Besides, by the staff of the department  has introduced in puncture treatment of liver abscess under ultrasound control, differential diagnosis of aneurysms of the abdominal aorta with color Doppler ultrasound,identification of tissue in the hernial SAC in patients with strangulated hernia using sonography and color Doppler ultrasound.

          

Staff of the department actively participate in all public events held both at the University level and at the national level.
